What is Hyaluronic Acid?

For everything you need to know about skin dehydration fine lines and how to combat them with Hyaluronic Acid.

Beauty School - What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Have you spotted fine lines around your eyes lately? These fine lines are most likely caused by skin dehydration, which is simply a lack of water. This can be treated so easily with my favourite skincare ingredient: Hyaluronic Acid.

You may well have heard of Hyaluronic Acid when reading about skincare, and you might already know why this wonder ingredient is so great for your skin. On the other hand, you might be looking at the word “acid” and wondering how on Earth this could be good for you. The good news is that Hyaluronic Acid benefits are plentiful, and it’s the perfect ingredient to add to your skincare routine, no matter your age or skin type.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

In short, it is a molecule that is already found naturally within the human body, including all three layers of the skin. As we age, our Hyaluronic Acid levels decrease significantly, resulting in fine dehydration lines, and can make us panic-buy ALL the anti-ageing treatments! In reality, regular use of a Hyaluronic Acid cream such as the Anew Clinical Defend & Repair Advanced Hydration Overnight Mask can reintroduce higher levels back into the skin and help to plump up these fine lines. Now that’s what I call beauty sleep!

How does Hyaluronic Acid Work?

The best analogy I can use is a sponge, which doesn’t weigh much at all, but can hold a huge amount of water within itself. Hyaluronic Acid molecules are like little sponges that can retain up to one thousand times their own weight in water, delivering it to your skin in the form of a Hyaluronic Acid cream or treatment. I love the Anew Platinum Precious Metal Mask because it’s infused with intensely moisturising Hyaluronic Acid, and is really fun to use.

Can I use Hyaluronic Acid around my eyes?

As long as you use a product formulated for the delicate eye area, then you can indeed use a Hyaluronic Acid cream around your eyes. In fact, around the eyes tend to be one of the first places to show fine dehydration lines. One of my favourite quick fixes for this problem are the K-Beauty Gold Hydrogel Eye Patches, which are formulated with Hyaluronic Acid to cool, soothe and brighten the under eye area.

So if you’re panicking about fine lines, don’t reach for the anti-ageing creams just yet: a Hyaluronic Acid serum might be all you need.
